Nik Szafranek was born in Wrocław, Poland and raised in Toronto, ON, Canada where much of his formative years were spent visiting the Royal Ontario Museum. His formal art education first began as a teenager with Continuing Education courses at the Toronto District School Board. These were followed by classes offered by the Art Fundamentals/Visual Creative Arts programs at Sheridan College, Drawing and Creative Expression classes at Dawson College in Montreal, and Illustration courses at Seneca College in Toronto. Nik is currently enrolled in Sheridan College’s Craft and Design – Ceramics Program after serendipitously discovering clay.
Nik’s work explores the contradictions he encounters as a gay man raised in a conservative Catholic immigrant family, while living in a broader secular culture.
